My Favourite Things - family activities with Writer in Residence Aoife Mannix

Children and their families are invited to join Writer in Residence Aoife Mannix for a range of fun filled activities inspired by the intriguing objects on display in A Hard Choice.  Create your own collection of favourite things using words and pictures.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Creative Writing Workshop for Adults

Work with Portsmouth Museum's Writer in Residence, Aoife Mannix to use the fascinating objects on show in A Hard Choice as the starting point for writing inspired by the joy of collecting.  The workshop will be fun and practical and no previous writing experience is necessary.  Further workshops will run on Friday 26 June, 2.00 - 4.00pm and Sunday 28 June, 10.30am - 12.30pm.  You are welcome to join us for one or more sessions.  Why not book for all three to see how your writing develops?

Taxidermy Talk and Demonstration (Fully Booked)

Meet Jazmine Miles-Long, an ethical taxidermist who only works with birds and animals that have died from natural causes.  Discover the processes involved in the strange and fascinating craft of taxidermy and watch as Jazmine demonstrates some of the techniques she uses to create work for artists, collectors and museums.

An Introduction to Framing

What questions should you ask to ensure that you receive the right advice when you take your treasured pictures to a framer?  Philip Poole of Bespoke Picture Framing Fareham will talk you through the process and introduce some of the options available to you in terms of frames, mounts and glass.

Sunday 19th July

Step into the Stone Age

Join us at Portsmouth Museum with fun for all the family. Meet the flint knapper; primitive technologist Karl Lee will be demonstrating how prehistoric people were making stone tools and explaining how they would have been used in the daily lives of our ancestors.

Lots of other activities throughout the day, try your hand at cave painting, test your timeline skills and join the mammoth hunt!
